Bible Verses about Materialism

For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
Whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income. This too is meaningless. He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal.
What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Better a little with the fear of the Lord than great wealth with turmoil.Better is little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure and trouble therewith.
Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
Everyone comes naked from their mother’s womb, and as everyone comes, so they depart. They take nothing from their toil that they can carry in their hands. As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
How much better to get wisdom than gold, to get insight rather than silver! How much better is it to get wisdom than gold! and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver!
Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.”Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.
I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment.Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.
Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread.Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me.
Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry.Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
What good will it be for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? Or what can anyone give in exchange for their soul? For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?
But godliness with contentment is great gain. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold.A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.
All day long he craves for more, but the righteous give without sparing. He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.
All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of their possessions was their own, but they shared everything they had.And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.
Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.Riches profit not in the day of wrath: but righteousness delivereth from death.
Cast but a glance at riches, and they are gone, for they will surely sprout wings and fly off to the sky like an eagle.Wilt thou set thine eyes upon that which is not? for riches certainly make themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle toward heaven.
The wealth of the rich is their fortified city; they imagine it a wall too high to scale. The rich man's wealth is his strong city, and as an high wall in his own conceit.

If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person? But whoso hath this world's good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?
