So now, O Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? Only to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments of the Lord your God and his decrees that I am commanding you today, for your own well-being. | And now, Israel, what doth the Lord thy God require of thee, but to fear the Lord thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, To keep the commandments of the Lord, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? |
For I am longing to see you so that I may share with you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— or rather so that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. | For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. |
|
If you will only obey the Lord your God, by diligently observing all his commandments that I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. | And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth. |
I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope. | I wait for the Lord, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. |
Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart. Recite them to your children and talk about them when you are at home and when you are away, when you lie down and when you rise. | And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. |
Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill. | Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. |
Even before a word is on my tongue, O Lord, you know it completely. | For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O Lord, thou knowest it altogether. |
For God alone my soul waits in silence, for my hope is from him. | My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. |
“All things are lawful,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. | All things are lawful for me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but all things edify not. |
With the Lord on my side I do not fear. What can mortals do to me? | The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me? |
When I thought, “My foot is slipping,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. | When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up. |
Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. | Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. |
“All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything. | All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. |
Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name. | Bless the Lord, O my soul: and all that is within me, bless his holy name. |
Now the works of the flesh are obvious: fornication, impurity, licentiousness, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, anger, quarrels, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these. I am warning you, as I warned you before: those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. | Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. |
If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God that I am commanding you today, by loving the Lord your God, walking in his ways, and observing his commandments, decrees, and ordinances, then you shall live and become numerous, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. | In that I command thee this day to love the Lord thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments and his statutes and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply: and the Lord thy God shall bless thee in the land whither thou goest to possess it. |
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. | Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. |
I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my whole being shall exult in my God; for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation, he has covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. | I will greatly rejoice in the Lord, my soul shall be joyful in my God; for he hath clothed me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh himself with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth herself with her jewels. |
Though an army encamp against me, my heart shall not fear; though war rise up against me, yet I will be confident. | Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident. |
Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them? says the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the Lord. | Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. |
I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. | A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. |
Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall again praise him, my help and my God. | Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God. |
Let me hear of your steadfast love in the morning, for in you I put my trust. Teach me the way I should go, for to you I lift up my soul. | Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. |
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. | Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. |
To the one who conquers I will give a place with me on my throne, just as I myself conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. | To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. |
