Come (2/4)

  • Paul said, “John’s baptism called for repentance from sin. But John himself told the people to believe in the one who would come later, meaning Jesus.”
  • Come close to God, and God will come close to you. Wash your hands, you sinners; purify your hearts, for your loyalty is divided between God and the world.
  • I look up to the mountains—
does my help come from there?
My help comes from the Lord,
    who made heaven and earth!
  • And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
  • And so blessing and cursing come pouring out of the same mouth. Surely, my brothers and sisters, this is not right!
  • “Come now, let’s settle this,”
    says the Lord.
“Though your sins are like scarlet,
I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson,
I will make them as white as wool.”
  • Anyone who speaks against the Son of Man can be forgiven, but anyone who speaks against the Holy Spirit will never be forgiven, either in this world or in the world to come.
  • But he knows where I am going.
And when he tests me, I will come out as pure as gold.
    For I have stayed on God’s paths;
I have followed his ways and not turned aside.
  • The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”
  • Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength.
  • Keep me safe, O God,
for I have come to you for refuge.
  • “The time promised by God has come at last!” he announced. “The Kingdom of God is near! Repent of your sins and believe the Good News!”
  • Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.
  • Then he added, “Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: ‘I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.’ For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners.”
  • But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah,
are only a small village among all the people of Judah.
    Yet a ruler of Israel,
whose origins are in the distant past,
will come from you on my behalf.
  • Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.”
  • But who am I, and who are my people, that we could give anything to you? Everything we have has come from you, and we give you only what you first gave us!
  • Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”
  • In those days when you pray, I will listen.
  • So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.
  • And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life.
  • Therefore he is able, once and forever, to save those who come to God through him. He lives forever to intercede with God on their behalf.
  • Don’t let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your Creator. Honor him in your youth before you grow old and say, “Life is not pleasant anymore.”
  • The hopes of the godly result in happiness,
but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing.
  • But everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.

Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the reign of King Herod. About that time some wise men from eastern lands arrived in Jerusalem, asking, “Where is the newborn king of the Jews? We saw his star as it rose, and we have come to worship him.”
