- And she will have a son, and you are to name him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins.
- For the Lord grants wisdom!
From his mouth come knowledge and understanding. - Lord, don’t hold back your tender mercies from me.
Let your unfailing love and faithfulness always protect me. - Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit.
- For you know that God paid a ransom to save you from the empty life you inherited from your ancestors. And it was not paid with mere gold or silver, which lose their value. It was the precious blood of Christ, the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.
- You must be holy because I, the Lord, am holy. I have set you apart from all other people to be my very own.
- I have not departed from his commands,
but have treasured his words more than daily food. - But test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good. Stay away from every kind of evil.
- But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all wickedness.
- Tainted wealth has no lasting value,
but right living can save your life. - For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.
- And then he added, “It is what comes from inside that defiles you. For from within, out of a person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, lustful desires, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you.”
- For the Lord your God is gracious and merciful. If you return to him, he will not continue to turn his face from you.
- “Abba, Father,” he cried out, “everything is possible for you. Please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.”
- So faith comes from hearing, that is, hearing the Good News about Christ.
- Then the Lord God said, “Look, the human beings have become like us, knowing both good and evil. What if they reach out, take fruit from the tree of life, and eat it? Then they will live forever!” So the Lord God banished them from the Garden of Eden, and he sent Adam out to cultivate the ground from which he had been made.
- And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.
- When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.
- You must serve only the Lord your God. If you do, I will bless you with food and water, and I will protect you from illness.
- Before the mountains were born,
before you gave birth to the earth and the world,
from beginning to end, you are God. - Do you think that I like to see wicked people die? says the Sovereign Lord. Of course not! I want them to turn from their wicked ways and live.
- Give to anyone who asks; and when things are taken away from you, don’t try to get them back.
- If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
- Who has done such mighty deeds,
summoning each new generation from the beginning of time?
It is I, the Lord, the First and the Last.
I alone am he. - Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters. Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving, turning you away from the living God.
