His (4/4)

  • Don’t envy violent people
    or copy their ways.
Such wicked people are detestable to the Lord,
but he offers his friendship to the godly.
  • For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • We all come to the end of our lives as naked and empty-handed as on the day we were born. We can’t take our riches with us.
  • So obey the commands of the Lord your God by walking in his ways and fearing him.
  • For in him we live and move and exist. As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.’
  • If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
  • The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right,
and his ears are open to their prayers.
But the Lord turns his face
    against those who do evil.
  • And he went to the place of the dead. There, in torment, he saw Abraham in the far distance with Lazarus at his side. The rich man shouted, ‘Father Abraham, have some pity! Send Lazarus over here to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue. I am in anguish in these flames.’
  • And this same God who takes care of me will supply all your needs from his glorious riches, which have been given to us in Christ Jesus.
  • So God created human beings in his own image.
    In the image of God he created them;
male and female he created them.
  • For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • A wise child brings joy to a father;
a foolish child brings grief to a mother.
  • No one has ever seen God. But if we love each other, God lives in us, and his love is brought to full expression in us.
  • And the Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day there will be one Lord—his name alone will be worshiped.
  • If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.
  • So there is a special rest still waiting for the people of God. For all who have entered into God’s rest have rested from their labors, just as God did after creating the world.
  • God will do this, for he is faithful to do what he says, and he has invited you into partnership with his Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.
  • So again I say, each man must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.
  • They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him. They wove thorn branches into a crown and put it on his head, and they placed a reed stick in his right hand as a scepter. Then they knelt before him in mockery and taunted, “Hail! King of the Jews!”
  • He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing good deeds.
  • With their words, the godless destroy their friends,
but knowledge will rescue the righteous.
  • God showed how much he loved us by sending his one and only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him.
  • God sent his Son into the world not to judge the world, but to save the world through him.
  • When God raised up his servant, Jesus, he sent him first to you people of Israel, to bless you by turning each of you back from your sinful ways.
  • This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.

Bible verse of the day

My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart.

O Lord, I will honor and praise your name,
for you are my God.
You do such wonderful things!
You planned them long ago,
