I baptize you with water for repentance, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you— that is, that we may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith, both yours and mine. | For I long to visit you so I can bring you some spiritual gift that will help you grow strong in the Lord. When we get together, I want to encourage you in your faith, but I also want to be encouraged by yours. |
The one who conquers, I will grant him to sit with me on my throne, as I also conquered and sat down with my Father on his throne. | Those who are victorious will sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat with my Father on his throne. |
Already you are clean because of the word that I have spoken to you. | You have already been pruned and purified by the message I have given you. |
