Just (4/4)

  • This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you.
  • This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.
  • Do not add to or subtract from these commands I am giving you. Just obey the commands of the Lord your God that I am giving you.
  • So you see, just as death came into the world through a man, now the resurrection from the dead has begun through another man.
  • For if we are faithful to the end, trusting God just as firmly as when we first believed, we will share in all that belongs to Christ.
  • Seek the Lord, all who are humble,
    and follow his commands.
Seek to do what is right
    and to live humbly.
Perhaps even yet the Lord will protect you—
protect you from his anger on that day of destruction.
  • For God called you to do good, even if it means suffering, just as Christ suffered for you. He is your example, and you must follow in his steps.
  • “They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.”
  • For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Savior of his body, the church.
  • Let those who are wise understand these things.
Let those with discernment listen carefully.
The paths of the Lord are true and right,
and righteous people live by walking in them.
But in those paths sinners stumble and fall.
  • Again he said, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I am sending you.”
  • But most of all, my brothers and sisters, never take an oath, by heaven or earth or anything else. Just say a simple yes or no, so that you will not sin and be condemned.
  • The Lord is like a father to his children,
tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
  • May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us.
  • Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out upon us, just as you see and hear today.
  • The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
  • So if someone tells you, ‘Look, the Messiah is out in the desert,’ don’t bother to go and look. Or, ‘Look, he is hiding here,’ don’t believe it! For as the lightning flashes in the east and shines to the west, so it will be when the Son of Man comes.
  • When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.
  • You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.”
  • You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things.
  • If another believer sins against you, go privately and point out the offense. If the other person listens and confesses it, you have won that person back.
  • Just think how much more the blood of Christ will purify our consciences from sinful deeds so that we can worship the living God. For by the power of the eternal Spirit, Christ offered himself to God as a perfect sacrifice for our sins.
  • For we will be counted as righteous when we obey all the commands the Lord our God has given us.
  • The sinful nature wants to do evil, which is just the opposite of what the Spirit wants. And the Spirit gives us desires that are the opposite of what the sinful nature desires. These two forces are constantly fighting each other, so you are not free to carry out your good intentions.
  • Physical training is good, but training for godliness is much better, promising benefits in this life and in the life to come.
