He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. | Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God's wrath. |
And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. | But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed; you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He has been raised; he is not here. Look, there is the place they laid him.” |

Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord. | Who can hide in secret places so that I cannot see them? says the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? says the Lord. |
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it. | Train children in the right way, and when old, they will not stray. |
Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil. | Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil. |
Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. | Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming. |
These ye shall eat of all that are in the waters: all that have fins and scales shall ye eat: And whatsoever hath not fins and scales ye may not eat; it is unclean unto you. | Of all that live in water you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales you may eat. And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you. |
Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the Lord. | You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbor, or you will incur guilt yourself. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. |
If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? | Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen. |
But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it. | But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. |
Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. | Be strong and bold; have no fear or dread of them, because it is the Lord your God who goes with you; he will not fail you or forsake you. |
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness. | Do not fear, for I am with you, do not be afraid, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my victorious right hand. |
Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. | Now a mediator involves more than one party; but God is one. |
Behold, happy is the man whom God correcteth: therefore despise not thou the chastening of the Almighty. | How happy is the one whom God reproves; therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. |
Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be. | From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers and sisters, this ought not to be so. |
I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. | I keep the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. |
Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince. | Fine speech is not becoming to a fool; still less is false speech to a ruler. |
Him that is weak in the faith receive ye, but not to doubtful disputations. | Welcome those who are weak in faith, but not for the purpose of quarreling over opinions. |
With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments. | With my whole heart I seek you; do not let me stray from your commandments. |
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh. | Indeed, we live as human beings, but we do not wage war according to human standards. |
And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. | The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome it. |
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. | So faith by itself, if it has no works, is dead. |
Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. | See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. |
I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. | I am not asking you to take them out of the world, but I ask you to protect them from the evil one. |
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. | And do not bring us to the time of trial, but rescue us from the evil one. |
