- Before a downfall the heart is haughty,
but humility comes before honor. - “Go,” said Jesus, “your faith has healed you.” Immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus along the road.

this only do I seek:

to gaze on the beauty of the Lord
and to seek him in his temple. - Start children off on the way they should go,

on those whose hope is in his unfailing love. - The one who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.
- But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.”
- But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.”
- Remember that you were slaves in Egypt and that the Lord your God brought you out of there with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm. Therefore the Lord your God has commanded you to observe the Sabbath day.
- Whoever would foster love covers over an offense,
but whoever repeats the matter separates close friends. - “If you keep your feet from breaking the Sabbath
and from doing as you please on my holy day,
if you call the Sabbath a delight
and the Lord’s holy day honorable,
and if you honor it by not going your own way
and not doing as you please or speaking idle words,
then you will find your joy in the Lord,
and I will cause you to ride in triumph on the heights of the land
and to feast on the inheritance of your father Jacob.”
For the mouth of the Lord has spoken. - See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
- And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.
- ‘Never again will they hunger;
never again will they thirst.
The sun will not beat down on them,’
nor any scorching heat.
For the Lamb at the center of the throne
will be their shepherd;
‘he will lead them to springs of living water.’
‘And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.’ - Anyone who does not provide for their relatives, and especially for their own household, has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.
- As goods increase,
so do those who consume them.
And what benefit are they to the owners
except to feast their eyes on them? - Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
- The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your power, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.” Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
- If anyone has material possessions and sees a brother or sister in need but has no pity on them, how can the love of God be in that person?
- The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.
- It was not by their sword that they won the land,
nor did their arm bring them victory;
it was your right hand, your arm,
and the light of your face, for you loved them. - Wait for the Lord;
be strong and take heart
and wait for the Lord.
