Then (4/4)

  • I, I alone, am the one who comforts you.
    Why then do you fear mortal men who must die,
    human beings who must perish like grass?
  • He then called the people and his disciples to him and said to them, “Anyone who wishes to follow me must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow me.”
  • Therefore, a Sabbath rest still remains for the people of God, since those who enter into God’s rest also cease from their own labors as God did from his.
  • He cried out, “Father, into your hands I commend my spirit.” And with these words he breathed his last.
  • Then he led them out as far as Bethany, and lifting up his hands he blessed them. While he was blessing them, he departed from them and was taken up to heaven.
  • Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
  • Meanwhile, the Church throughout Judea, Galilee, and Samaria enjoyed peace, building up strength and living in the fear of the Lord. Encouraged by the Holy Spirit, the Church grew in numbers.
  • The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
    The man said,
    “This one is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh.
    She shall be called woman
    because she was taken from man.”
    This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh.
  • If you refrain from traveling on the Sabbath
    and from engaging in your own interests on my holy day,
    if you call the Sabbath a day of joy
    and regard the Lord’s holy day as honorable,
    if you honor it by not going your own way,
    serving your own interests,
    or attending to your own affairs;
    then you will find true happiness in the Lord,
    and I will enable you to ride
    upon the heights of the earth.
    I will nourish you with the heritage of your father Jacob,
    for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.
  • Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and in the sea, and all that is in them, saying:
    “To the one seated on the throne
    and to the Lamb
    be blessing and honor and glory and might
    forever and ever.”
  • And God said, “Let us make man in our image and likeness, and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the wild animals and reptiles that crawl upon the earth.”
  • If we are diligent in observing all of these commandments before the Lord, our God, as he commanded of us, then this will be our righteousness.
  • They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, and after twisting some thorns into a crown, they placed it on his head and put a reed in his right hand. Then, bending the knee before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!”
  • But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions.
  • For I am not ashamed of the gospel, since it is the power of God that offers salvation to everyone who has faith—to Jews first, and then to Gentiles as well.
  • If you obey the command that I give you today, to love the Lord, your God, and to walk in his ways, and to observe his commandments, statutes, and decrees, then you will live and multiply, and the Lord, your God, will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess.
  • If you know me,
    then you will know my Father also.
    From now on you do know him.
    You have seen him.
  • Everyone who hears these words of mine and acts in accordance with them will be like a wise man who constructed his house on a rock foundation.
  • Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
    fasten them around your neck
    and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
    Then you will gain favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.
  • He brought you low, allowing you to suffer from hunger. He then fed you with manna, something with which your fathers were not familiar, so that you might come to know that man does not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that comes forth from the mouth of the Lord.
  • Even if an army encamps against me,
    my heart will not succumb to fear;
    even if war breaks out against me,
    I will not have my trust shaken.
  • God blessed the seventh day and he consecrated it, for on it he rested from all the work he had done when he created all things.
  • Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. Behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.”
  • Do the things that you have learned, received, and heard from me and that you saw me doing. Then the God of peace will be with you.
  • If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Therefore, whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

Bible verse of the day

It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city.

Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives
do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled;
be not afraid.
