- To make an apt answer is a joy to a man,
and a word in season, how good it is! - Who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began.
- And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. - A fool gives full vent to his spirit,
but a wise man quietly holds it back. - Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
- Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.

a stronghold in the day of trouble;
he knows those who take refuge in him. - Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
- For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
- Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to God through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
- And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit in the wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil. And he ate nothing during those days. And when they were ended, he was hungry.
- By day the Lord commands his steadfast love,
and at night his song is with me,
a prayer to the God of my life. - One Sabbath he was going through the grainfields, and as they made their way, his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. And the Pharisees were saying to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the Sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did, when he was in need and was hungry, he and those who were with him: how he entered the house of God, in the time of Abiathar the high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and also gave it to those who were with him?” And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
- If anyone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen cannot love God whom he has not seen.
- Many are the afflictions of the righteous,
but the Lord delivers him out of them all. - So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria had peace and was being built up. And walking in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it multiplied.
- Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.
- Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.
- Wealth gained hastily will dwindle,
but whoever gathers little by little will increase it. - You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.
- Do not be like your fathers, to whom the former prophets cried out, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, Return from your evil ways and from your evil deeds.’ But they did not hear or pay attention to me, declares the Lord.
- “Yet even now,” declares the Lord,
“return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning.” - Nothing is covered up that will not be revealed, or hidden that will not be known.
- And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.
