For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. | For though we walk in the flesh, we do not wage battle according to the flesh. |
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident. | If an army encamps against me, My heart will not fear; If war arises against me, In spite of this I am confident. |

You desire but do not have, so you kill. You covet but you cannot get what you want, so you quarrel and fight. You do not have because you do not ask God. | You lust and do not have, so you commit murder. And you are envious and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel. You do not have because you do not ask. |
If a man has recently married, he must not be sent to war or have any other duty laid on him. For one year he is to be free to stay at home and bring happiness to the wife he has married. | When a man takes a new wife, he is not to go out with the army, nor be assigned any duty; he shall be free at home for one year and shall make his wife whom he has taken happy. |
Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city. | One who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, And one who rules his spirit, than one who captures a city. |
The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing. | The Lord your God is in your midst, A victorious warrior. He will rejoice over you with joy, He will be quiet in His love, He will rejoice over you with shouts of joy. |
The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God. | Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: sexual immorality, impurity, indecent behavior, idolatry, witchcraft, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, envy, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. |
Turn my heart toward your statutes and not toward selfish gain. | Incline my heart to Your testimonies, And not to dishonest gain. |
I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. | I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. |
Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life. | Do all things without complaining or arguments; so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you appear as lights in the world, holding firmly the word of life. |
Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. | Therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer person is decaying, yet our inner person is being renewed day by day. |
Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! | Consider the ravens, that they neither sow nor reap; they have no storeroom nor barn, and yet God feeds them; how much more valuable you are than the birds! |
“If you do not listen, and if you do not resolve to honor my name,” says the Lord Almighty, “I will send a curse on you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not resolved to honor me.” | “If you do not listen, and if you do not take it to heart to give honor to My name,” says the Lord of armies, “then I will send the curse upon you and I will curse your blessings; and indeed, I have cursed them already, because you are not taking it to heart.” |
Watch out that you do not lose what we have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. | Watch yourselves, that you do not lose what we have accomplished, but that you may receive a full reward. |
Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves. | Beware of the false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves. |
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has distributed to each of you. | For through the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think more highly of himself than he ought to think; but to think so as to have sound judgment, as God has allotted to each a measure of faith. |
“And with you, Lord, is unfailing love”; and, “You reward everyone according to what they have done.” | And faithfulness is Yours, Lord, For You reward a person according to his work. |
A wicked person earns deceptive wages, but the one who sows righteousness reaps a sure reward. | A wicked person earns deceptive wages, But one who sows righteousness gets a true reward. |
Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. | Behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to reward each one as his work deserves. |
May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you the same attitude of mind toward each other that Christ Jesus had. | Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant you to be of the same mind with one another, according to Christ Jesus. |
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance. | The Lord is not slow about His promise, as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not willing for any to perish, but for all to come to repentance. |
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. | And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for the one who comes to God must believe that He exists, and that He proves to be One who rewards those who seek Him. |
When anyone becomes aware that they are guilty in any of these matters, they must confess in what way they have sinned. | So it shall be when he becomes guilty of one of these things, that he shall confess that in which he has sinned. |
The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. | The Lord bless you, and keep you; The Lord cause His face to shine on you, And be gracious to you; The Lord lift up His face to you, And give you peace. |
But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. | But as for you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door, and pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. |
