- For the message about the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- But he answered, “It is written,
‘One does not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’ ” - A gentle tongue is a tree of life,
but perverseness in it breaks the spirit. - Wealth hastily gotten will dwindle,
but those who gather little by little will increase it. - The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do this.
- Like newborn infants, long for the pure, spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow into salvation.
- Six days shall work be done; but the seventh day is a sabbath of complete rest, a holy convocation; you shall do no work: it is a sabbath to the Lord throughout your settlements.
- Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. - Train children in the right way,
and when old, they will not stray. - What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it?
- For a thousand years in your sight
are like yesterday when it is past,
or like a watch in the night. - A gift opens doors;
it gives access to the great. - The heart is devious above all else;
it is perverse—
who can understand it?
I the Lord test the mind
and search the heart,
to give to all according to their ways,
according to the fruit of their doings. - The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.
- For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
- And it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
- For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not first sit down and estimate the cost, to see whether he has enough to complete it?
- Indeed, the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
- And without faith it is impossible to please God, for whoever would approach him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.
- Take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them. For it is shameful even to mention what such people do secretly.
- For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.
- It does not rejoice in wrongdoing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.
- The wealth of the rich is their strong city;
in their imagination it is like a high wall. - Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
- The clever see danger and hide;
but the simple go on, and suffer for it.
