Chinese (traditional)Be on guard against false prophets who come to you disguised in sheep’s clothing, but who inwardly are ravenous wolves. The reward of humility and fear of the Lord
is wealth, honor, and life. My mouth is filled with your praises
as I relate your glory all day long. A thief comes only
to steal and kill and destroy.
I have come
that they may have life,
and have it in abundance. This is my commandment:
love one another
as I have loved you. Therefore, you must also be prepared, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him. It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city. If someone says, “I love God,”
but at the same time hates his brother,
he is a liar.
For whoever does not love the brother
whom he has seen
cannot love God whom he has not seen. I myself did not know him,
but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me,
‘The one on whom you see the Spirit descend and rest
is the one who is to baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ You want something that you cannot have, so you commit murder. And you covet something but cannot obtain it, so you engage in quarrels and fights. You do not have because you do not ask. In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you? If I have the gift of prophecy
and the ability to understand all mysteries and all knowledge,
and have all the faith necessary to move mountains,
but do not have love,
I am nothing. Where many words are spoken, sin is not absent,
but whoever restrains his tongue is prudent. Whoever believes in him is not condemned,
but whoever does not believe in him
already stands condemned,
because he has not believed in the name
of the only-begotten Son of God. For all of us fall short in many ways. Anyone who never makes a mistake in speech has reached perfection and is able to control every part of his body. But if you seek the Lord, your God, and you strive with all your heart and your soul, you will find him there. Do not judge, so that you in turn may not be judged. Over all these put on love, which is the bond of perfection. However, to those who did accept him
and who believed in his name
he granted the power to become children of God. For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all is God. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and then you will be my witnesses not only in Jerusalem, but throughout Judea and Samaria, and indeed to the farthest ends of the earth. How beautiful upon the mountains
are the feet of the messenger who announces peace,
who bears good news and proclaims glad tidings,
announcing salvation and saying to Zion,
“Your God is king.” You are truly my rock and my fortress;
for the sake of your name, lead and guide me. Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever receives the one I send
receives me,
and whoever receives me
receives the one who sent me. When you pass through the waters,
I will be with you;
nor will the waters engulf you.
When you walk through fire,
you will not be burned;
the flames will not consume you. For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.” You have given me the shield of your salvation;
your right hand sustains me,
and your goodness makes me great.
You broadened the path beneath me
so that my feet have never stumbled. I seek you with all my heart;
do not let me stray from your precepts. No one can have greater love
than to lay down his life for his friends. But you, O Lord, reign forever;
your throne endures from age to age. He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him?
