Chinese (traditional)So be strong and courageous,
all you who put your hope in the Lord! May the Lord our God be with us as he was with our ancestors; may he never leave us or abandon us. And what do you benefit if you gain the whole world but lose your own soul? A cheerful heart is good medicine,
but a broken spirit saps a person’s strength. You may think you can condemn such people, but you are just as bad, and you have no excuse! When you say they are wicked and should be punished, you are condemning yourself, for you who judge others do these very same things. For the grace of God has been revealed, bringing salvation to all people. And we are instructed to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures. We should live in this evil world with wisdom, righteousness, and devotion to God. This is the day the Lord has made.
We will rejoice and be glad in it. Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything. Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all. A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need. A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken. You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless. Wait patiently for the Lord.
Be brave and courageous.
Yes, wait patiently for the Lord. And I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit in you. I will take out your stony, stubborn heart and give you a tender, responsive heart. But when Jesus heard what had happened, he said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid. Just have faith, and she will be healed.” Gentle words are a tree of life;
a deceitful tongue crushes the spirit. No one can know a person’s thoughts except that person’s own spirit, and no one can know God’s thoughts except God’s own Spirit. And I will put my Spirit in you so that you will follow my decrees and be careful to obey my regulations. God’s way is perfect.
All the Lord’s promises prove true.
He is a shield for all who look to him for protection. Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.” Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment. Honesty guides good people;
dishonesty destroys treacherous people. When Jesus heard this, he said, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do.” For you are all children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. And all who have been united with Christ in baptism have put on Christ, like putting on new clothes. I know the Lord is always with me.
I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me. Wealth and honor come from you alone, for you rule over everything. Power and might are in your hand, and at your discretion people are made great and given strength. Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone. When you make a promise to God, don’t delay in following through, for God takes no pleasure in fools. Keep all the promises you make to him. May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. So we fasted and earnestly prayed that our God would take care of us, and he heard our prayer. The Lord hears his people when they call to him for help.
He rescues them from all their troubles.
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted;
he rescues those whose spirits are crushed. Deceit fills hearts that are plotting evil;
joy fills hearts that are planning peace!
