Bible Verses about the Body
What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. | Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. |
For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. | For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another. |
For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb. I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. | For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. |
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever. | My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. |
Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart, and put away evil from thy flesh: for childhood and youth are vanity. | Remove vexation from your heart, and put away pain from your body, for youth and the dawn of life are vanity. |
A merry heart doeth good like a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones. | A joyful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. |
Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. | Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. |
Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the Lord, and depart from evil. It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones. | Be not wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord, and turn away from evil. It will be healing to your flesh and refreshment to your bones. |
For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come. | For while bodily training is of some value, godliness is of value in every way, as it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come. |
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful. | And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. |
For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day. | So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. |
But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. | But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified. |
Pleasant words are as an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. | Gracious words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the body. |
Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? | Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? |
There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling. | There is one body and one Spirit—just as you were called to the one hope that belongs to your call. |
For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. | For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. |
And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. | And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell. |
For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. | For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. |
And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell. | If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. |
Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on. The life is more than meat, and the body is more than raiment. | Do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat, nor about your body, what you will put on. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothing. |
For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. | For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. |
Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife. | The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. |
O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee: my soul thirsteth for thee, my flesh longeth for thee in a dry and thirsty land, where no water is. | O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water. |
And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. | And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said, “This at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.” Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. |
And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. | And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” |
