- And this is the testimony:
God gave us eternal life,
and this life is in his Son. - Who indeed conquers the world
except the one who believes
that Jesus is the Son of God? - He was despised and shunned by others,
a man of sorrows who was no stranger to suffering.
We loathed him and regarded him as of no account,
as one from whom men avert their gaze. - I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me, and I in him,
will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing. - For even the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve and to give his life as a ransom for many.
- I will not leave you orphans;
I will come to you. - For you are aware that you were ransomed from your futile way of life inherited from your ancestors not with perishable things like silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.
- I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
- In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you? - It was for freedom that Christ set us free. Therefore, stand firm and refuse to submit again to the yoke of slavery.
- This is
‘the stone rejected by you, the builders,
that has become the cornerstone.’ - This is how we know what love is:
he laid down his life for us,
and we in turn must be prepared
to lay down our lives for our brethren. - If you abide in me
and my words abide in you,
you may ask for whatever you wish,
and it will be done for you. - For us there is
one God, the Father,
from whom all things are
and for whom we exist,
and one Lord, Jesus Christ,
through whom all things are
and through whom we exist. - We also know
that the Son of God has come
and given us understanding
so that we can know the one who is true.
And we are in the one who is true,
since we are in his Son Jesus Christ.
He is the true God and eternal life. - I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know
that you have eternal life. - Whatever you ask in my name I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. - Therefore, if the Son sets you free,
you then will truly be free. - Behold, I am coming soon, and I will bring with me my reward to repay everyone as his deeds deserve.
- If you know me,
then you will know my Father also.
From now on you do know him.
You have seen him. - I have told you these things
so that my joy may be in you
and your joy may be complete. - But our citizenship is in heaven, and from there we await our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
- The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
- For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so too do we believe that God will bring forth with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
- But he answered me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Hence, I will boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell within me.
