- My child, listen to me and do as I say,
and you will have a long, good life. - The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity,
but it destroys the wicked. - I will cause your descendants to become as numerous as the stars of the sky, and I will give them all these lands. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed. I will do this because Abraham listened to me and obeyed all my requirements, commands, decrees, and instructions.
- If you obey all the decrees and commands I am giving you today, all will be well with you and your children. I am giving you these instructions so you will enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you for all time.
- You must not misuse the name of the Lord your God. The Lord will not let you go unpunished if you misuse his name.
- Don’t misunderstand why I have come. I did not come to abolish the law of Moses or the writings of the prophets. No, I came to accomplish their purpose.
- Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom.
All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom.
Praise him forever! - Lord, we show our trust in you by obeying your laws;
our heart’s desire is to glorify your name. - As I learn your righteous regulations,
I will thank you by living as I should! - God alone, who gave the law, is the Judge. He alone has the power to save or to destroy. So what right do you have to judge your neighbor?
- I will walk in freedom,
for I have devoted myself to your commandments. - But if wicked people turn away from all their sins and begin to obey my decrees and do what is just and right, they will surely live and not die.
- That is why he is the one who mediates a new covenant between God and people, so that all who are called can receive the eternal inheritance God has promised them. For Christ died to set them free from the penalty of the sins they had committed under that first covenant.
- I have rejoiced in your laws
as much as in riches. - Then the Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me on the mountain. Stay there, and I will give you the tablets of stone on which I have inscribed the instructions and commands so you can teach the people.”
- So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other.
- He proclaimed his covenant—the Ten Commandments—which he commanded you to keep, and which he wrote on two stone tablets.
- If you will listen carefully to the voice of the Lord your God and do what is right in his sight, obeying his commands and keeping all his decrees, then I will not make you suffer any of the diseases I sent on the Egyptians; for I am the Lord who heals you.
- Now may the God of peace—
who brought up from the dead our Lord Jesus,
the great Shepherd of the sheep,
and ratified an eternal covenant with his blood—
may he equip you with all you need
for doing his will.
May he produce in you,
through the power of Jesus Christ,
every good thing that is pleasing to him.
All glory to him forever and ever! Amen. - Moses remained there on the mountain with the Lord forty days and forty nights. In all that time he ate no bread and drank no water. And the Lord wrote the terms of the covenant—the Ten Commandments—on the stone tablets.
- Remember, you must not make any idols of silver or gold to rival me.
- I have not departed from his commands,
but have treasured his words more than daily food. - When you see the tassels, you will remember and obey all the commands of the Lord instead of following your own desires and defiling yourselves, as you are prone to do.
- I will hurry, without delay,
to obey your commands. - The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
