Bible Verses about Punishment

  • My son, do not ignore the Lord’s discipline
or refuse to accept his rebuke.
For the Lord disciplines those whom he loves,
just as a father chastises a beloved son.
  • I reprove and discipline all those whom I love. Therefore, be sincere in your desire to repent.
  • The prudent man perceives danger and seeks shelter,
while the simple continue forward and pay the penalty.
  • All those who have sinned outside the Law will perish outside the Law, and all who sinned under the Law will be judged by the Law.
  • At the time that discipline is received, it always seems painful rather than pleasant, but afterward it yields a harvest of peace and uprightness to those who have been trained by it.
  • When someone sins and does any of the things that the Lord has forbidden, even if he does not realize he did it, he has still committed an offense and must bear his guilt.
  • But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted.
  • Repent and renounce all your transgressions. Otherwise your iniquity will prove to be your downfall.
  • In love there is no fear;
indeed, perfect love casts out fear,
because fear has to do with punishment,
    and whoever fears
has not yet achieved perfection in love.
  • You shall not take the name of the Lord, your God, in vain, for the Lord will not consider blameless those who take his name in vain.
  • Blessed is the man whom God reproves.
Therefore, do not reject the discipline of the Almighty.
  • Thus you could understand that the Lord, your God, was disciplining you, just like a father disciplines his son.
  • Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise,
but he who mingles with fools will suffer harm.
  • Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned.
  • No, I tell you. But unless you repent, you will all perish as they did.
  • Therefore, the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from their trials and to hold the wicked for punishment until the Day of Judgment.
  • Hence, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.
  • Above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth, or use any oaths at all. Let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No.” Otherwise you may be condemned.
  • Preach the message; be persistent in doing so, whether in season or out of season; convince, reprove, and encourage, but with great patience and instruction.
  • He gives a home to those who are forsaken
and leads out prisoners amid chants of exultation,
while rebels are forced to live in an arid land.
  • The Lord watches over the stranger
and sustains the fatherless and the widow,
but he blocks the way of the wicked.
  • Therefore, I tell you that every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven.
  • However, the gift is not like the transgression. For if the transgression of one man led to the death of the many, how much greater was the overflowing effect of the grace of God and the gift of the one man Jesus Christ that has abounded for the many.
  • Riches will be of no avail on the day of wrath,
    but righteousness delivers from death.
  • Because the sentence for committing an evil act is not carried out quickly, people’s hearts are prone to act wickedly.

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power,
and he will never allow the guilty
to escape punishment.
He makes his way in whirlwind and storm,
and the clouds are the dust beneath his feet.

The Lord does not delay in keeping his promise, as some think in terms of delay, but he is patient with you. It is not his wish that any should perish but rather that all should be brought to repentance.Next verse! With image
