Any (3/4)

  • For the customs of the peoples are false:
    a tree from the forest is cut down,
    and worked with an ax by the hands of an artisan;
    people deck it with silver and gold;
    they fasten it with hammer and nails
    so that it cannot move.
    Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
    and they cannot speak;
    they have to be carried,
    for they cannot walk.
    Do not be afraid of them,
    for they cannot do evil,
    nor is it in them to do good.
  • My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.
  • I establish my covenant with you, that never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of a flood, and never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.
  • Of all that live in water you may eat these: whatever has fins and scales you may eat. And whatever does not have fins and scales you shall not eat; it is unclean for you.
  • It is honorable to refrain from strife,
    but every fool is quick to quarrel.
  • He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, “Whoever wants to be first must be last of all and servant of all.”
  • For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything; the only thing that counts is faith working through love.
  • For truly I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not one letter, not one stroke of a letter, will pass from the law until all is accomplished.
  • But I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.
  • Do not deceive yourselves. If you think that you are wise in this age, you should become fools so that you may become wise.
  • Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore, love is the fulfilling of the law.
  • I will sing to the Lord as long as I live;
    I will sing praise to my God while I have being.
  • “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are beneficial. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.
  • For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
  • But I say to you, Do not swear at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King.
  • Yet I have been the Lord your God
    ever since the land of Egypt;
    you know no God but me,
    and besides me there is no savior.
  • But ask in faith, never doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.
  • Whoever serves me must follow me, and where I am, there will my servant be also. Whoever serves me, the Father will honor.
  • And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying,
    “See, the home of God is among mortals.
    He will dwell with them as their God;
    they will be his peoples,
    and God himself will be with them;
    he will wipe every tear from their eyes.
    Death will be no more;
    mourning and crying and pain will be no more,
    for the first things have passed away.”
  • One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
  • I had eaten no rich food, no meat or wine had entered my mouth, and I had not anointed myself at all, for the full three weeks.
  • Keep your lives free from the love of money, and be content with what you have; for he has said, “I will never leave you or forsake you.”
  • Let no evil talk come out of your mouths, but only what is useful for building up, as there is need, so that your words may give grace to those who hear.
  • See, I am the Lord, the God of all flesh; is anything too hard for me?
  • But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without a trace of partiality or hypocrisy.

This means understanding that the law is laid down not for the innocent but for the lawless and disobedient, for the godless and sinful, for the unholy and profane, for those who kill their father or mother, for murderers, fornicators, sodomites, slave traders, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to the sound teaching that conforms to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, which he entrusted to me.

Bible verse of the day

When the day of Pentecost had come, they were all together in one place. And suddenly from heaven there came a sound like the rush of a violent wind, and it filled the entire house where they were sitting.
