For I am your passing guest,
an alien, like all my forebears. - Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul; rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him;
do not fret over those who prosper in their way,
over those who carry out evil devices. - Do not be mismatched with unbelievers. For what partnership is there between righteousness and lawlessness? Or what fellowship is there between light and darkness?
- Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
- For I have no pleasure in the death of anyone, says the Lord God. Turn, then, and live.
- And do not bring us to the time of trial,
but rescue us from the evil one. - The wicked borrow, and do not pay back,
but the righteous are generous and keep giving. - Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
- The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, all that he has is in your power; only do not stretch out your hand against him!” So Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.
- The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus.”
- Do not seek your own advantage, but that of the other.
