- I have told you this
so that in me you may be in peace.
In the world
you will endure suffering.
But take courage!
I have overcome the world. - In my Father’s house
there are many dwelling places.
If there were not,
would I have told you
that I am going to prepare a place for you? - In that way, I can come to you in joy, if God so wills, and be refreshed together with you.
- I stretch out my hands to you;
my soul thirsts for you like a parched land. Selah - Call to me and I will answer you and reveal to you great and mysterious secrets about which you are unaware.
- I, I alone, am the one who comforts you.
Why then do you fear mortal men who must die,
human beings who must perish like grass? - At dawn let me experience your kindness,
for in you I place my trust.
Show me the path I must walk,
for to you I lift up my soul. - I will rejoice and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. - Heal me, O Lord, and I will be healed;
save me, and I will be saved;
you are the one whom I praise. - I will praise you in sincerity of heart
as I ponder your righteous judgments. - For I know full well the plans I have for you, plans for your welfare and not for your misfortune, plans that will offer you a future filled with hope.
- Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you and utter all kinds of calumnies against you for my sake.
- Then I acknowledged my sin to you,
and I made no attempt to conceal my guilt.
I said, “I will confess my offenses to the Lord,”
and you removed the guilt of my sin. Selah - Where can I go to hide from your spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to the heavens, you are there;
if I take my rest in the netherworld, you are also there. - I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know
that you have eternal life. - I will extol you, my God and King;
I will bless your name forever and ever. - I will give thanks to you among the peoples, O Lord;
I will sing your praises among the nations. - You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’
and rightly so,
for that is what I am. - For I resolved that, while I was with you, I would know nothing except Jesus Christ—and him crucified.
- I am the vine,
you are the branches.
Whoever abides in me, and I in him,
will bear much fruit.
Apart from me you can do nothing. - Adulterers! Do you not know that love of the world results in enmity with God? Therefore, whoever wishes to be a lover of the world makes himself an enemy of God.
- When I sing to you, my lips will rejoice,
and so will my soul, which you have redeemed. - You shall keep these things that I command you today in your heart. Teach them to your children. You shall talk of them when you are sitting in your home, and when you are walking along the way, and when you lie down and when you rise up.
- I have given you a command. Be strong and brave, do not be afraid nor dismayed. I, the Lord, your God, will be with you wherever you go.
- I am not asking you
to take them out of the world,
but I do ask you
to protect them from the evil one.
You shall serve the Lord, your God. He will bless your bread and water and take away sickness from your midst.
