I (3/4)

  • A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.
  • But he knows the way that I take;
    when he has tested me, I shall come out like gold.
    My foot has held fast to his steps;
    I have kept his way and have not turned aside.
  • I will extol you, my God and King,
    and bless your name forever and ever.
  • I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.
  • And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing.
  • And it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
  • But I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified.
  • Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets; I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
  • I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another.
  • But this command I gave them, “Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be my people; and walk only in the way that I command you, so that it may be well with you.”
  • So I will display my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.
  • I have swept away your transgressions like a cloud,
    and your sins like mist;
    return to me, for I have redeemed you.
  • I have not departed from the commandment of his lips;
    I have treasured in my bosom the words of his mouth.
  • Give heed to my reproof;
    I will pour out my thoughts to you;
    I will make my words known to you.
  • Go, gather all the Jews to be found in Susa, and hold a fast on my behalf, and neither eat nor drink for three days, night or day. I and my maids will also fast as you do. After that I will go to the king, though it is against the law; and if I perish, I perish.
  • I cried aloud to him,
    and he was extolled with my tongue.
  • I hurry and do not delay
    to keep your commandments.
  • The Lord is my light and my salvation;
    whom shall I fear?
    The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
    of whom shall I be afraid?
  • “The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”
  • In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?
  • I, I am he who comforts you;
    why then are you afraid of a mere mortal who must die,
    a human being who fades like grass?
  • Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice.
  • If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels, but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal.
  • I baptize you with water for repentance, but one who is more powerful than I is coming after me; I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
  • Very truly, I tell you, whoever receives one whom I send receives me; and whoever receives me receives him who sent me.

Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.
