- By his own choice he gave us birth through the way of truth so that we may be a kind of firstfruits of all his creation.
- However, whoever lives by the truth
comes to the light
so that it may be clearly seen
that his deeds have been done in God. - Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.
- Let no foul word ever pass your lips. Say only what is useful for edification, so that your words may benefit your listeners.
- And now, dear children,
abide in him,
so that when he appears
we may have confidence
and not be put to shame by him
at his coming. - I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation to know him.
- Let us then make every effort to enter into that rest, so that no one may fall by following that example of refusing to believe.
- Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace when we are in need of help.
- I have made your name known to them,
and I will make it known,
so that the love with which you loved me
may be in them, and I in them. - Rather, I discipline my body and bring it under control, for fear that after preaching to others I myself may be disqualified.
- May the Lord cause your love to increase and overflow for one another and for everyone else, just as our love does for you.
- I have told you this
so that in me you may be in peace.
In the world
you will endure suffering.
But take courage!
I have overcome the world. - May I never boast of anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world is crucified to me and I to the world.
- And whenever you stand in prayer, forgive whatever grievance you have against anybody, so that your Father in heaven may forgive your wrongs too.
- What then shall we say? Should we persist in sin in order that grace may abound? Of course not! We have died to sin. How can we live in it any longer?
- Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective.
- The Lord then said, “Very well. All that he has is in your power. However, you may not lay a hand upon him.” So Satan went forth from the presence of the Lord.
- No one after lighting a lamp covers it with a pot or places it under a bed. Rather he places it on a lampstand so that those who enter may see the light.
- For his anger lasts for only a moment,
while his goodwill endures for a lifetime.
Weeping may last throughout the night,
but at daybreak there is rejoicing. - For so has the Lord commanded us to do, saying,
‘I have made you a light for the Gentiles
so that you may bring salvation
to the farthest corners of the earth.’ - Therefore, you have no excuse, whoever you may be, when you pass judgment on others. For in judging others you condemn yourself, since you are doing the same things.
- Above all, my brethren, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth, or use any oaths at all. Let your “Yes” mean “Yes” and your “No” mean “No.” Otherwise you may be condemned.
- Seek the Lord,
all you humble of the land
who obey his commands.
Seek righteousness, seek humility;
then perhaps you may find shelter
on the day of the Lord’s anger. - Peter answered, “Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins may be forgiven, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
- And God is able to enrich you with an abundance of every grace, so that, with all of your needs provided for, you may be able to produce a surplus of good works.
