Must (3/4)

  • Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.
  • Do not add to what I command you and do not subtract from it, but keep the commands of the Lord your God that I give you.
  • Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come.
  • You shall not covet your neighbor’s house. You shall not covet your neighbor’s wife, or his male or female servant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor.
  • Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord.
  • Walk in obedience to all that the Lord your God has commanded you, so that you may live and prosper and prolong your days in the land that you will possess.
  • But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
  • But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.
  • Keep my commands and follow them. I am the Lord.
  • Jesus replied: ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
  • Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.
  • Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
  • But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.
  • You are to be holy to me because I, the Lord, am holy, and I have set you apart from the nations to be my own.
  • Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.
  • It is God’s will that you should be sanctified: that you should avoid sexual immorality; that each of you should learn to control your own body in a way that is holy and honorable, not in passionate lust like the pagans, who do not know God.
  • You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
  • Worship the Lord your God, and his blessing will be on your food and water. I will take away sickness from among you.
  • Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.
  • But you, man of God, flee from all this, and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness.
  • Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,
for I have put my trust in you.
Show me the way I should go,
for to you I entrust my life.
  • But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.
  • But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day.
  • But I have been the Lord your God
ever since you came out of Egypt.
You shall acknowledge no God but me,
    no Savior except me.
  • For this very reason, make every effort to add to your faith goodness; and to goodness, knowledge; and to knowledge, self-control; and to self-control, perseverance; and to perseverance, godliness; and to godliness, mutual affection; and to mutual affection, love.

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.
