| He must become greater; I must become less. | He must increase, but I must decrease. |

| It is the Lord your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him. | You shall walk after the Lord your God and fear Him, and keep His commandments and obey His voice; you shall serve Him and hold fast to Him. |
| You, however, must teach what is appropriate to sound doctrine. | But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine. |
| Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. | Let love be without hypocrisy. Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good. |
| But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people. | But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints. |
| If your brother or sister sins against you, rebuke them; and if they repent, forgive them. | When anyone becomes aware that they are guilty in any of these matters, they must confess in what way they have sinned. | And it shall be, when he is guilty in any of these matters, that he shall confess that he has sinned in that thing. |
| Then he called the crowd to him along with his disciples and said: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me.” | When He had called the people to Himself, with His disciples also, He said to them, “Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” |
