- Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord,
the people whom he has chosen as his heritage! - The heart of man plans his way,
but the Lord establishes his steps. - And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you, but to fear the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and to keep the commandments and statutes of the Lord, which I am commanding you today for your good?
- But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
- You shall not hate your brother in your heart, but you shall reason frankly with your neighbor, lest you incur sin because of him. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
- A man without self-control
is like a city broken into and left without walls. - And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
- He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds you have been healed.
- For one will scarcely die for a righteous person—though perhaps for a good person one would dare even to die— but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
- The integrity of the upright guides them,
but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them. - So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, for whoever has entered God's rest has also rested from his works as God did from his.
- Whoever guards his mouth preserves his life;
he who opens wide his lips comes to ruin. - Know then in your heart that, as a man disciplines his son, the Lord your God disciplines you.
- Therefore you are great, O Lord God. For there is none like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
- The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me;
your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever.
Do not forsake the work of your hands. - However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.
- If anyone thinks he is religious and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his heart, this person's religion is worthless.
- Wives, submit to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives, and do not be harsh with them.
- And he said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
- And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
- As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, yet possessing everything.
- Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.
- May he grant you your heart's desire
and fulfill all your plans! - And calling the crowd to him with his disciples, he said to them, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.”
- Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.
