    Their idols are like scarecrows in a cucumber field,
    and they cannot speak;
    they have to be carried,
    for they cannot walk.
    Do not be afraid of them,
    for they cannot do evil,
    nor is it in them to do good.
  • Do not let loyalty and faithfulness forsake you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
    So you will find favor and good repute
    in the sight of God and of people.
  • Pursue peace with everyone, and the holiness without which no one will see the Lord.
  • It is better to take refuge in the Lord
    than to put confidence in mortals.
  • By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
