- You shall not hate in your heart anyone of your kin; you shall reprove your neighbor, or you will incur guilt yourself. You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against any of your people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
- Some take pride in chariots, and some in horses,
but our pride is in the name of the Lord our God. - Let the believer who is lowly boast in being raised up, and the rich in being brought low, because the rich will disappear like a flower in the field.
- So Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin, but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.
- Honor widows who are really widows.
- My friends, if anyone is detected in a transgression, you who have received the Spirit should restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness. Take care that you yourselves are not tempted.
- Those who walk blamelessly, and do what is right,
and speak the truth from their heart;
who do not slander with their tongue,
and do no evil to their friends,
nor take up a reproach against their neighbors. - I know that there is nothing better for them than to be happy and enjoy themselves as long as they live; moreover, it is God's gift that all should eat and drink and take pleasure in all their toil.
- You then, my child, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
- Love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor.
- Little children, keep yourselves from idols.
- You shall not abuse any widow or orphan. If you do abuse them, when they cry out to me, I will surely heed their cry; my wrath will burn, and I will kill you with the sword, and your wives shall become widows and your children orphans.
- I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart. - Likewise all to whom God gives wealth and possessions and whom he enables to enjoy them, and to accept their lot and find enjoyment in their toil—this is the gift of God.
- Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
remove the evil of your doings
from before my eyes;
cease to do evil. - The Lord, your God, is in your midst,
a warrior who gives victory;
he will rejoice over you with gladness,
he will renew you in his love;
he will exult over you with loud singing. - The clever see danger and hide;
but the simple go on, and suffer for it. - Hear, my child, and accept my words,
that the years of your life may be many. - So we fasted and petitioned our God for this, and he listened to our entreaty.
- Put on the whole armor of God, so that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
- You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
- Cast your burden on the Lord,
and he will sustain you;
he will never permit
the righteous to be moved. - Why do you see the speck in your neighbor's eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye?
- In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
- Learn to do good;
seek justice,
rescue the oppressed,
defend the orphan,
plead for the widow.
