- For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer,
but the face of the Lord is against those who do evil. - Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.
- For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
- Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, left the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, where for forty days he was tempted by the devil. He ate nothing during those days, and at the end of them he was hungry.
- The Lord detests lying lips,
but he delights in people who are trustworthy. - Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather, be afraid of the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
- Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
- Do not offer any part of yourself to sin as an instrument of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer every part of yourself to him as an instrument of righteousness.
- Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love him.
- Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice. - To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”
- Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.
- For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him.
- However, as it is written:
“What no eye has seen,
what no ear has heard,
and what no human mind has conceived”—
the things God has prepared for those who love him. - For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
- Give proper recognition to those widows who are really in need.
- If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!
- And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
- The Lord will rescue his servants;
no one who takes refuge in him will be condemned. - You will keep in perfect peace
those whose minds are steadfast,
because they trust in you. - No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so that those who come in can see the light.
- No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.
- Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.
- Praise the Lord.
Blessed are those who fear the Lord,
who find great delight in his commands. - Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction.
