they earn a far greater reward for their toil. - But Jesus has now received a ministry that is far superior, for he is the mediator of a far better covenant that has been established on better promises.
- I wait for the Lord in anxious expectation;
I place my hope in his word. - Do not assert that the past was better than the present,
for such a statement is not a sign of wisdom. - But if we hope for what we do not yet see, then we wait for it with patience.
- It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to place your trust in mortals. - It is better to have little and be righteous
than to acquire great riches with injustice. - A man’s attraction is his kindness;
it is far better to be poor than to be a liar. - Place your hope in the Lord:
be strong and courageous in your heart,
and place your hope in the Lord. - It is better to have a little and fear the Lord
than to possess immense wealth and suffer anguish. - It is better to be a patient man rather than a warrior,
one who controls his temper rather than one who captures a city. - It is better to acquire wisdom rather than gold,
and more desirable to acquire understanding rather than silver. - I am pulled in opposite directions. My desire is to depart and to be with Christ, for that is far better, but, it is a more urgent need for you that I remain in the body.
- Teach us to comprehend how few our days are
so that our hearts may be filled with wisdom. - But even so the Lord is waiting to be gracious to you,
and he will rise up to grant you his compassion.
For the Lord is a God of justice;
blessed are all those who wait for him. - Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vanity, but humbly regard others as better than yourselves.
- Remember your Creator in the days of your youth
before the bad times come
and the years draw near when you will say,
“I take no pleasure in them”. - Wait quietly for the Lord
and be patient until he comes.
Do not fret over the man who prospers
because of his evil schemes. - It is better to spend one day in your courts
than a thousand elsewhere.
I would rather be a doorkeeper in God’s house
than dwell inside the tents of the wicked. - As we proceed in the path of your judgments,
we wait for you, O Lord;
your name and your renown
are all that our heart desires. - Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil. During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was famished.
- Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your father,
and do not run to your brother’s house when troubles befall you;
far better is a friend nearby
than a brother who is far away. - Only goodness and kindness will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
forever and ever. - An honorable name is more to be desired than great riches,

my God will hear me. - My son, do not forget my teaching,
but cherish my commandments in your heart,
for they will bring you length of days,
more years of life, and an abundance of prosperity. - Your kindness is a greater joy than life itself;
thus my lips will speak your praise.
I will bless you all my life;
with uplifted hands I will call on your name. - Honor your father and your mother so that your days may be lengthened in the land that the Lord your God, will give you.
- Preferable is the little that the righteous possess
than the great wealth of the wicked.
For the power of the wicked will be overcome,
but the Lord protects the righteous. - For:
“If anyone wishes to love life
and to experience good days,
he must restrain his tongue from evil
and his lips from deceitful speech.
He must turn away from evil and do good,
seek peace and pursue it.” - Go, and assemble all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. My maids and I will do the same thing. After that, I will go to the king—against the law. And if I perish, I perish!
- Therefore, take care to live as intelligent people, and do not be like those who are senseless. Make the most of the present time, for this is a wicked age.

just one thing I seek:
to dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
so that I may enjoy the beauty of the Lord
and gaze on his temple. - Nevertheless, I am telling you the truth:
it is better for you that I depart.
For if I do not go away,
the Advocate will not come to you,
whereas if I go,
I will send him to you. - Guide me in your truth and instruct me,
for you are God, my Savior,
and in you I hope all the day long. - One person may consider one day to be more sacred than another, while another may judge all days to be alike. Let everyone be convinced in his own beliefs.

- Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Six days you shall labor and do your work, but the seventh day is the Sabbath in honor of the Lord your God. You shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male slave, nor your female slave, nor your animals, nor the foreigner who dwells with you. The Lord made the heavens and the earth and the seas and that which is in them in six days, but he rested the seventh day. Thus, the Lord blessed the Sabbath and declared it to be sacred.

She was bent over and completely unable to stand up straight. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said, “Woman, you are freed from your infirmity.” Then he laid his hands on her, and immediately she stood up straight and began praising God.
But the leader of the synagogue was indignant because Jesus had effected a cure on the Sabbath, and he said to the assembled people, “There are six days when work is permitted. Come on those days and be cured, and not on the Sabbath.” The Lord said to him in reply, “You hypocrites! Is there a single one of you who does not untie his ox or his donkey and lead it from its stall to give it water on the Sabbath? Should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has held bound for eighteen long years, be set free from this bondage on the Sabbath?” At these words, all his adversaries were put to shame, and the people rejoiced at all the wonderful things he was doing. - The Lord is my portion, I say to myself;
therefore, I will place my hope in him. - Continue in all of the ways that the Lord, your God, has commanded you. Continue in them so that you may live and prosper and that you may long dwell on the land of your inheritance.
