and the flame shall not consume you. - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.

- For you have need of endurance, so that when you have done the will of God you may receive what is promised.

my soul also, which you have redeemed. - But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
- And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
- I will praise you with an upright heart,
when I learn your righteous rules. - Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.
- And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever.
- When pride comes, then comes disgrace,
but with the humble is wisdom. - Praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints.
- I do not ask that you take them out of the world, but that you keep them from the evil one.
- My soul thirsts for God,
for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God? - Do not withhold good from those to whom it is due,
when it is in your power to do it. - And when he comes, he will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.
- When I thought, “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up. - Even a fool who keeps silent is considered wise;
when he closes his lips, he is deemed intelligent. - For when I kept silent, my bones wasted away
through my groaning all day long. - But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me.
- And when they bring you to trial and deliver you over, do not be anxious beforehand what you are to say, but say whatever is given you in that hour, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
- Train up a child in the way he should go;
even when he is old he will not depart from it. - When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul. - But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.
- When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
- Having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints.
- When he realizes his guilt in any of these and confesses the sin he has committed, he shall bring to the Lord as his compensation for the sin that he has committed.
- But when they had grazed, they became full,
they were filled, and their heart was lifted up;
therefore they forgot me.
