When (4/4)

  • If a man has recently been married, he is not to go off to battle nor have any other duty laid on him. He will be free to stay at home for one year so that he can bring happiness to the wife whom he has married.
  • Hope deferred sickens the heart,
but a desire fulfilled is a tree of life.
  • When things are going well, be grateful for your blessings,
and in times of adversity consider this:
God has made both of them,
so that we cannot predict with confidence
    what the future holds.
  • Therefore, whenever you give alms, do not trumpet your generosity, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets in order to win the praise of others. Amen, I say to you, they have already received their reward.
  • Where many words are spoken, sin is not absent,
but whoever restrains his tongue is prudent.
  • God blessed the seventh day and he consecrated it, for on it he rested from all the work he had done when he created all things.
  • Therefore, you have no excuse, whoever you may be, when you pass judgment on others. For in judging others you condemn yourself, since you are doing the same things.
  • If your brother wrongs you, go and take up the matter with him when the two of you are alone. If he listens to you, you have won your brother over.
  • Let us then approach the throne of grace with confidence so that we may receive mercy and find grace when we are in need of help.
  • Filled with the Holy Spirit, Jesus returned from the Jordan and was led by the Spirit into the desert for forty days, where he was tempted by the devil. During that time he ate nothing, and at the end of it he was famished.
  • Do not forsake your friend or the friend of your father,
    and do not run to your brother’s house when troubles befall you;
far better is a friend nearby
than a brother who is far away.
  • By faith Abraham also received the power of procreation, even though he was well past the age—and Sarah herself was barren—because he believed that the one who had made the promise would be faithful in fulfilling it.
  • Fight the good fight of faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your noble confession of faith in the presence of many witnesses.

when morning dawns, I will proclaim your kindness.
For you have been my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble.

  • Then he took bread, and after giving thanks he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you. Do this in memory of me.”
  • One day, as Jesus was passing through a field of grain on the Sabbath, his disciples began to pick some heads of grain as they walked along. The Pharisees said to him, “Behold, why are your disciples doing what is forbidden on the Sabbath?”

He answered, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God when Abiathar was high priest and ate the sacred bread that only the priests were permitted to eat, and he shared it with his companions.” Then he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. That is why the Son of Man is Lord even of the Sabbath.”
  • He is the reflection of God’s glory
and the perfect expression of his very being,
sustaining all things by his powerful word.
    Achieving purification from sins,
he took his seat at the right hand of the Majesty on high.
  • The Lord will become king over the whole earth. When that day comes, he will be the only Lord, and his name will be the only name.

and listened to my cry for mercy,
because he has inclined his ear to me
on the day when I called out to him.
  • You might say to yourself, “How can we know that the Lord did not speak the message?” If what the prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord is not true and it does not happen, then the message was not proclaimed by the Lord. The prophet has spoken presumptuously, you should not fear him.

for whom I have been searching earnestly.
    My soul yearns for you
and my body thirsts for you,
like the earth when it is parched,
    arid and without water.
