Sin (2/5)

  • Remember your mercy, O Lord, and your steadfast love,
    for they have been from of old.
    Remember not the sins of my youth or my transgressions;
    according to your steadfast love remember me,
    for the sake of your goodness, O Lord!
  • Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper,
    but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
  • For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.
  • Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
  • Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin.”
  • For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
  • Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil.
  • The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law.
  • Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out.
  • Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.
  • Repent and turn from all your transgressions, lest iniquity be your ruin.
  • What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it?
  • Wash yourselves; make yourselves clean;
    remove the evil of your deeds from before my eyes;
    cease to do evil.
  • But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
  • There is a way that seems right to a man,
    but its end is the way to death.
  • Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord:
    though your sins are like scarlet,
    they shall be as white as snow;
    though they are red like crimson,
    they shall become like wool.
  • For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
  • I have not come to call the righteous but sinners to repentance.
  • When words are many, transgression is not lacking,
    but whoever restrains his lips is prudent.
  • I acknowledged my sin to you,
    and I did not cover my iniquity;
    I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,”
    and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
  • For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there will be disorder and every vile practice.
  • If anyone sins, doing any of the things that by the Lord's commandments ought not to be done, though he did not know it, then realizes his guilt, he shall bear his iniquity.
  • We have sinned and done wrong and acted wickedly and rebelled, turning aside from your commandments and rules.
  • But he was pierced for our transgressions;
    he was crushed for our iniquities;
    upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
    and with his wounds we are healed.
  • For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Do not present your members to sin as instruments for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who have been brought from death to life, and your members to God as instruments for righteousness.

Though the fig tree should not blossom,
nor fruit be on the vines,
the produce of the olive fail
and the fields yield no food,
the flock be cut off from the fold
and there be no herd in the stalls,
yet I will rejoice in the Lord;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
