Chinese (traditional)What then can we say in response to all this? If God is for us, who can be against us? Our help is in the name of the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth. Rejoice with those who rejoice; weep with those who weep. All this knowledge comes from the Lord of hosts
whose counsel is wonderful
and whose wisdom is great. With the Lord to protect me I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me? With our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. For the sake of the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, ignoring its shame, and is now seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Whatever you ask in my name I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. The name of the Lord is a tower of strength;
the upright man runs to it and finds refuge. But God is rich in his mercy, and because he had such great love for us, he brought us to life with Christ when we were already dead through sin—it is by grace that you have been saved. Brethren, you were called to freedom. However, make sure that you do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh. Instead, serve one another in love. Place your hope in the Lord:
be strong and courageous in your heart,
and place your hope in the Lord. Whoever believes in me,
as Scripture has said,
‘Streams of living water
shall flow from within him.’ But if you seek the Lord, your God, and you strive with all your heart and your soul, you will find him there. Dispose my heart to follow your statutes
and to flee selfish gain. For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all is God. No trial has confronted you except what a person can stand. God is faithful, and he will not allow you to be tried beyond your strength. But together with the trial he will also provide a way out and the strength to bear it. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
fools are those who despise wisdom and instruction. As long as the goodwill is present, the gift will be acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have. Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not treat them harshly. You have given me the shield of your salvation;
your right hand sustains me,
and your goodness makes me great.
You broadened the path beneath me
so that my feet have never stumbled. And said to them, “Whoever receives this child in my name receives me; and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. For the one who is least among all of you is the one who is the greatest.” For this reason, I rejoice when I endure weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and distress for the sake of Christ. For it is when I am weak that I am strong. A gentle reply turns away wrath,
but a harsh word arouses anger. Pay to each person what is rightfully his—taxes to the one to whom taxes are due, tolls to the one to whom tolls are due, respect to the one to whom respect is due, honor to the one to whom honor is due. Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the Church and gave himself up for her in order to sanctify her by cleansing her with water and the word. You are truly my rock and my fortress;
for the sake of your name, lead and guide me. For it is by grace that you have been saved through faith. This has not come from you but from the gift of God. It does not come from works, so that no one can boast. Each of us must consider his neighbor’s good for the purpose of building him up. In peace I lie down and sleep,
for only with your help, O Lord,
can I rest secure. Rather, revere Christ as Lord in your hearts.
Always be prepared to offer an explanation to anyone who asks you to justify the hope that is in you. However, do so with gentleness and respect. Therefore, brethren, I implore you by the mercies of God to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice that is holy and acceptable to God—a spiritual act of worship. Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil,
but those who counsel peace have joy.
