Come (3/4)

  • Just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
  • The prospect of the righteous is joy,
but the hopes of the wicked come to nothing.
  • From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near.”
  • Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.”
  • This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.
  • The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
  • After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.”
  • And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.
  • Those who guard their lips preserve their lives,
but those who speak rashly will come to ruin.
  • Do not deprive each other except perhaps by mutual consent and for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer. Then come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.
  • We have come to share in Christ, if indeed we hold our original conviction firmly to the very end.
  • Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.
  • For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.
  • Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
  • But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.
  • As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning.
  • The wise in heart accept commands,
but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
  • Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
  • Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely,
who conduct their affairs with justice.
  • Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
  • They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going, when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them. “Men of Galilee,” they said, “why do you stand here looking into the sky? This same Jesus, who has been taken from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen him go into heaven.”
  • When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment.
  • “Truly I tell you,” Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life.”
  • Lord, hear my prayer,
    listen to my cry for mercy;
    in your faithfulness and righteousness
    come to my relief.
  • But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

You may say to yourselves, “How can we know when a message has not been spoken by the Lord?” If what a prophet proclaims in the name of the Lord does not take place or come true, that is a message the Lord has not spoken. That prophet has spoken presumptuously, so do not be alarmed.
