- I rejoice in the Lord with all my heart;
my soul exults in my God.
For he has clothed me in garments of salvation
and wrapped me in a robe of saving justice,
like a bridegroom adorned with a garland
or a bride bedecked with her jewels. - Teach me your ways, O Lord,
so that I may walk in your truth;
let me worship your name
with an undivided heart. - Take care, brethren, that none of you will ever have an evil and unbelieving heart that will cause you to forsake the living God.
- Place your hope in the Lord:
be strong and courageous in your heart,
and place your hope in the Lord. - You want something that you cannot have, so you commit murder. And you covet something but cannot obtain it, so you engage in quarrels and fights. You do not have because you do not ask.
- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart
and quickly forgot me. - Banish grief from your heart
and ignore the sufferings of your body,
for youth and the prime of life are fleeting. - As long as I remained silent,
my body wasted away
as the result of my groaning throughout the day. - The entire community of believers was united in heart and soul. No one claimed any of his possessions as his own, for everything was held in common.
- The Lord is my light and my salvation;
whom should I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life;
of whom should I be afraid? - If you abide in me
and my words abide in you,
you may ask for whatever you wish,
and it will be done for you. - The heart is more deceitful than any other thing,
and it is also perverse.
Who can uncover its secrets?
I, the Lord, search the heart
and probe the mind
to reward all according to their conduct
and as their deeds deserve. - My life is in your hands;
deliver me from the power of my enemies,
from the clutches of those who pursue me. - A man’s ways may seem right to him,
but the Lord weighs the heart. - He continued, “Then put away the foreign gods from among you. Bend your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
- For one believes in the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
- Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
- Yet even now, says the Lord,
return to me with all your heart,
with fasting, with weeping, and with mourning. - Go forth, then. Eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God long ago approved what you do.
- Set me as a seal on your heart,
as a seal upon your arm.
For love is as strong as death,
and ardor is as relentless as the netherworld.
Its flames are flashes of fire,
an unending blaze. - Be strong and courageous in your hearts,
all you who place your hope in the Lord. - But if you seek the Lord, your God, and you strive with all your heart and your soul, you will find him there.
- Do not let kindness and fidelity leave you;
fasten them around your neck
and inscribe them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will gain favor and a good name
in the sight of God and man. - You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.
- If you confess with your lips, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
