- For a child has been born for us,
a son given to us;
authority rests upon his shoulders;
and he is named
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,

- Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you.
- Everyone who commits sin is a child of the devil; for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The Son of God was revealed for this purpose, to destroy the works of the devil.
- Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Look, the young woman is with child and shall bear a son, and shall name him Immanuel.

- My child, do not despise the Lord's discipline
or be weary of his reproof,
for the Lord reproves the one he loves,
as a father the son in whom he delights. - You have been born anew, not of perishable but of imperishable seed, through the living and enduring word of God.
- While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.

and when old, they will not stray. - Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.

- Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
- The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice;
he who begets a wise son will be glad in him. - My child, keep your father's commandment,
and do not forsake your mother's teaching. - And live in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
- Not to us, O Lord, not to us, but to your name give glory,
for the sake of your steadfast love and your faithfulness. - Help us, O God of our salvation,
for the glory of your name;
deliver us, and forgive our sins,
for your name's sake. - What then are we to say about these things? If God is for us, who is against us?
- My child, be attentive to my words;
incline your ear to my sayings.
Do not let them escape from your sight;
keep them within your heart. - Who, though he was in the form of God,
did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,
but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.
And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death—
even death on a cross. - Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! By his great mercy he has given us a new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.
- No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God lives in us, and his love is perfected in us.
- For God did not give us a spirit of cowardice, but rather a spirit of power and of love and of self-discipline.
- He it is who gave himself for us that he might redeem us from all iniquity and purify for himself a people of his own who are zealous for good deeds.
- For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens;
your faithfulness extends to the clouds. - Before the mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
from everlasting to everlasting you are God. - By faith he received power of procreation, even though he was too old—and Sarah herself was barren—because he considered him faithful who had promised.
- Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us,
and prosper for us the work of our hands—
O prosper the work of our hands! - Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones in the mother's womb, so you do not know the work of God, who makes everything.
- All this took place to fulfill what had been spoken by the Lord through the prophet:
“Look, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall name him Emmanuel,”
which means, “God is with us.” - We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
- In this is love, not that we loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins.
- Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight and the sin that clings so closely, and let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us.
