- For a child is born to us,
a son is given to us.
The government will rest on his shoulders.
And he will be called:
Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. - Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God.
- A friend is always loyal,
and a brother is born to help in time of need. - A wise child brings joy to a father;
a foolish child brings grief to a mother. - Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child?
Can she feel no love for the child she has borne?
But even if that were possible,
I would not forget you!
See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
Always in my mind is a picture of Jerusalem’s walls in ruins. - My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline,
and don’t be upset when he corrects you.
For the Lord corrects those he loves,
just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights. - Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual life.
- For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith.
- Think about it: Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.
- My child, if your heart is wise,
my own heart will rejoice! - The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David!
- For you have been born again, but not to a life that will quickly end. Your new life will last forever because it comes from the eternal, living word of God.
- All of this occurred to fulfill the Lord’s message through his prophet:
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child!
She will give birth to a son,
and they will call him Immanuel,
which means ‘God is with us.’” - Then he said to them, “Anyone who welcomes a little child like this on my behalf welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me also welcomes my Father who sent me. Whoever is the least among you is the greatest.”
- My child, listen to me and do as I say,
and you will have a long, good life. - Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, unless you are born again, you cannot see the Kingdom of God.”
- All right then, the Lord himself will give you the sign. Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel (which means ‘God is with us’).

- The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God.”
- This is how Jesus the Messiah was born. His mother, Mary, was engaged to be married to Joseph. But before the marriage took place, while she was still a virgin, she became pregnant through the power of the Holy Spirit.
- As he considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream. “Joseph, son of David,” the angel said, “do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife. For the child within her was conceived by the Holy Spirit.”
- And because Joseph was a descendant of King David, he had to go to Bethlehem in Judea, David’s ancient home. He traveled there from the village of Nazareth in Galilee. He took with him Mary, to whom he was engaged, who was now expecting a child.

and when they are older, they will not leave it. - And while they were there, the time came for her baby to be born. She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.

- Before the mountains were born,
before you gave birth to the earth and the world,
from beginning to end, you are God. - The father of godly children has cause for joy.
What a pleasure to have children who are wise. - For the Lord is our judge,
our lawgiver, and our king.
He will care for us and save us. - “They will be my people,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies. “On the day when I act in judgment, they will be my own special treasure. I will spare them as a father spares an obedient child.”
- Not to us, O Lord, not to us,
but to your name goes all the glory
for your unfailing love and faithfulness. - Help us, O God of our salvation!
Help us for the glory of your name.
Save us and forgive our sins
for the honor of your name. - My child, pay attention to what I say.
Listen carefully to my words.
Don’t lose sight of them.
Let them penetrate deep into your heart. - Though he was God,
he did not think of equality with God
as something to cling to.
Instead, he gave up his divine privileges;
he took the humble position of a slave
and was born as a human being.
When he appeared in human form,
he humbled himself in obedience to God
and died a criminal’s death on a cross. - For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
- Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ. He loved us and offered himself as a sacrifice for us, a pleasing aroma to God.
- He has removed our sins as far from us
as the east is from the west. - Since he did not spare even his own Son but gave him up for us all, won’t he also give us everything else?

- For your unfailing love is as high as the heavens.
Your faithfulness reaches to the clouds. - The Lord merely spoke,
and the heavens were created.
He breathed the word,
and all the stars were born. - Just as you cannot understand the path of the wind or the mystery of a tiny baby growing in its mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the activity of God, who does all things.
- For God saved us and called us to live a holy life. He did this, not because we deserved it, but because that was his plan from before the beginning of time—to show us his grace through Christ Jesus.
- This is real love—not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins.
- For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!
