- Now the birth of Jesus the Messiah took place in this way. When his mother Mary had been engaged to Joseph, but before they lived together, she was found to be with child from the Holy Spirit.
- By this you know the Spirit of God: every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, and every spirit that does not confess Jesus is not from God. And this is the spirit of the antichrist, of which you have heard that it is coming; and now it is already in the world.
- But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. - The lover of money will not be satisfied with money; nor the lover of wealth, with gain. This also is vanity.
- Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
- Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.
- For “no human being will be justified in his sight” by deeds prescribed by the law, for through the law comes the knowledge of sin.
- And you will say in that day:
Give thanks to the Lord,
call on his name;
make known his deeds among the nations;
proclaim that his name is exalted. - For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
- Because your steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
So I will bless you as long as I live;
I will lift up my hands and call on your name. - So we have known and believe the love that God has for us.
God is love, and those who abide in love abide in God, and God abides in them. - All who obey his commandments abide in him, and he abides in them. And by this we know that he abides in us, by the Spirit that he has given us.
- The Rock, his work is perfect,
and all his ways are just.
A faithful God, without deceit,
just and upright is he. - For if they fall, one will lift up the other; but woe to one who is alone and falls and does not have another to help.
- But Jesus has now obtained a more excellent ministry, and to that degree he is the mediator of a better covenant, which has been enacted through better promises.
- To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would take place: that the Messiah must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.
- And hope does not disappoint us, because God's love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit that has been given to us.
- One sabbath he was going through the grainfields; and as they made their way his disciples began to pluck heads of grain. The Pharisees said to him, “Look, why are they doing what is not lawful on the sabbath?” And he said to them, “Have you never read what David did when he and his companions were hungry and in need of food? He entered the house of God, when Abiathar was high priest, and ate the bread of the Presence, which it is not lawful for any but the priests to eat, and he gave some to his companions.” Then he said to them, “The sabbath was made for humankind, and not humankind for the sabbath; so the Son of Man is lord even of the sabbath.”
- Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
- So that, with the eyes of your heart enlightened, you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance among the saints.
- For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, “The one who is righteous will live by faith.”
- For it was you who formed my inward parts;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
that I know very well. - Woe to you who strive with your Maker,
earthen vessels with the potter!
Does the clay say to the one who fashions it, “What are you making”?
or “Your work has no handles”? - But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him; for the Lord does not see as mortals see; they look on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”
