- You may say to yourself, “How can we recognize a word that the Lord has not spoken?” If a prophet speaks in the name of the Lord but the thing does not take place or prove true, it is a word that the Lord has not spoken. The prophet has spoken it presumptuously; do not be frightened by it.
- When God saw what they did, how they turned from their evil ways, God changed his mind about the calamity that he had said he would bring upon them; and he did not do it.
- To them God chose to make known how great among the Gentiles are the riches of the glory of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.
- For this is the will of God, your sanctification: that you abstain from fornication;
that each one of you know how to control your own body in holiness and honor,
not with lustful passion, like the Gentiles who do not know God. - How happy is the one whom God reproves;
therefore do not despise the discipline of the Almighty. - Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we ought, but that very Spirit intercedes with sighs too deep for words.
- Those who say, “I love God,” and hate their brothers or sisters, are liars; for those who do not love a brother or sister whom they have seen, cannot love God whom they have not seen.
- By this we know that we abide in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit.
- Therefore you are great, O Lord God; for there is no one like you, and there is no God besides you, according to all that we have heard with our ears.
- “Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!”
- See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
- We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another.
- Pray then in this way:
Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven. - Happy are those whose transgression is forgiven,
whose sin is covered. - God's love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his only Son into the world so that we might live through him.
- For if while we were enemies, we were reconciled to God through the death of his Son, much more surely, having been reconciled, will we be saved by his life.
- By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
- Then Peter began to speak to them: “I truly understand that God shows no partiality, but in every nation anyone who fears him and does what is right is acceptable to him.”
- O taste and see that the Lord is good;
happy are those who take refuge in him. - Fine speech is not becoming to a fool;
still less is false speech to a ruler. - For they said to you, “In the last time there will be scoffers, indulging their own ungodly lusts.” It is these worldly people, devoid of the Spirit, who are causing divisions.
- So teach us to count our days
that we may gain a wise heart. - But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if the many died through the one man's trespass, much more surely have the grace of God and the free gift in the grace of the one man, Jesus Christ, abounded for the many.
- The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable,
but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. - Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
Instead, put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. You will be enriched in every way for your great generosity, which will produce thanksgiving to God through us.Next verse!With image
