Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you. | Nevertheless I tell you the truth: it is to your advantage that I go away, for if I do not go away, the Advocate will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you. |
For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. | For you need endurance, so that when you have done the will of God, you may receive what was promised. |

And I say unto you, Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you. | So I say to you, Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. |
And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? | Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good? |
But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. | But I say to you that listen, Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you. |
If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will, and it shall be done unto you. | If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask for whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. |
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. | Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled, and do not let them be afraid. |
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. | I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. |
And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. | Even to your old age I am he, even when you turn gray I will carry you. I have made, and I will bear; I will carry and will save. |
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. | For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will save it. |
Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord God: and not that he should return from his ways, and live? | Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, says the Lord God, and not rather that they should turn from their ways and live? |
A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. | A new heart I will give you, and a new spirit I will put within you; and I will remove from your body the heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. |
And how I kept back nothing that was profitable unto you, but have shewed you, and have taught you publicly, and from house to house. | I did not shrink from doing anything helpful, proclaiming the message to you and teaching you publicly and from house to house. |
Then said Jesus to them again, Peace be unto you: as my Father hath sent me, even so send I you. | Jesus said to them again, “Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you.” |
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. | So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and succeed in the thing for which I sent it. |
That I may come unto you with joy by the will of God, and may with you be refreshed. | So that by God's will I may come to you with joy and be refreshed in your company. |
For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. | For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake will find it. |
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. | No, I tell you; but unless you repent, you will all perish as they did. |
These things have I spoken unto you, that my joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. | I have said these things to you so that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be complete. |
And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever. | And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, to be with you forever. |
In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. | In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you? |
Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you. | You have already been cleansed by the word that I have spoken to you. |
And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. | Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.” |
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. | For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope. |
Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you. | You did not choose me but I chose you. And I appointed you to go and bear fruit, fruit that will last, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask him in my name. |
