- He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity.
- For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
- Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee.

- Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

and to get understanding rather to be chosen than silver! - But who am I, and what is my people, that we should be able to offer so willingly after this sort? for all things come of thee, and of thine own have we given thee.

they fly away as an eagle toward heaven. - For for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing.

and as an high wall in his own conceit. - Riches profit not in the day of wrath:

he bringeth low, and lifteth up. - As sorrowful, yet alway rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

and not to covetousness. - Better is a little with righteousness
than great revenues without right. - And the Lord turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

he will guide his affairs with discretion. - When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes?

but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. - He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
- Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted: But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
- The ransom of a man's life are his riches:
but the poor heareth not rebuke. - Ye shall not make with me gods of silver, neither shall ye make unto you gods of gold.
To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
