What (2/4)

  • But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.
  • What then should we say? That the law is sin? By no means! Yet, if it had not been for the law, I would not have known sin. I would not have known what it is to covet if the law had not said, “You shall not covet.”
  • Now who will harm you if you are eager to do what is good?
  • I am coming soon; hold fast to what you have, so that no one may seize your crown.
  • But test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil.
  • But, as it is written,
“What no eye has seen, nor ear heard,
    nor the human heart conceived,
what God has prepared for those who love him”
  • But as for you, teach what is consistent with sound doctrine.
  • Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.
  • Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have come to call not the righteous but sinners.
  • See what love the Father has given us, that we should be called children of God; and that is what we are. The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him.
  • To you, O God of my ancestors,
    I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and power,
and have now revealed to me what we asked of you,
for you have revealed to us what the king ordered.
  • Let what you heard from the beginning abide in you. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, then you will abide in the Son and in the Father.
  • When goods increase, those who eat them increase; and what gain has their owner but to see them with his eyes?
  • But even if you do suffer for doing what is right, you are blessed. Do not fear what they fear, and do not be intimidated.
  • So faith comes from what is heard, and what is heard comes through the word of Christ.
  • For what human being knows what is truly human except the human spirit that is within? So also no one comprehends what is truly God's except the Spirit of God.
  • What then are we to say? Should we continue in sin in order that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin go on living in it?
  • You call me Teacher and Lord—and you are right, for that is what I am.
  • What is desirable in a person is loyalty,
and it is better to be poor than a liar.
  • And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
  • For what the flesh desires is opposed to the Spirit, and what the Spirit desires is opposed to the flesh; for these are opposed to each other, to prevent you from doing what you want.
  • Therefore whatever you have said in the dark will be heard in the light, and what you have whispered behind closed doors will be proclaimed from the housetops.
  • Only fear the Lord, and serve him faithfully with all your heart; for consider what great things he has done for you.
  • But when you give alms, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your alms may be done in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you.
  • Woe to you who strive with your Maker,
    earthen vessels with the potter!
Does the clay say to the one who fashions it, “What are you making”?
or “Your work has no handles”?

When they bring you to trial and hand you over, do not worry beforehand about what you are to say; but say whatever is given you at that time, for it is not you who speak, but the Holy Spirit.
