Chinese (traditional)This is how we can be certain
that we abide in him
and that he abides in us:
he has given us a share in his Spirit. However, those who want riches fall into temptations and are trapped into many senseless and harmful desires that plunge them into ruin and destruction. Like a city that has been breached and made defenseless
is the man devoid of self-control. Instruct those who are rich in this world’s goods that they should not be proud, nor should they trust in the uncertainty of riches but rather in God who richly provides us with everything we need for our enjoyment. Do you not know?
Have you not heard?
The Lord is the eternal God,
the Creator of the earth’s farthest boundaries.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding cannot be scrutinized. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a sacrificial offering whose fragrance is pleasing to God. How wonderful and delightful it is
for brothers to live together in unity. This is the commandment
we have received from him:
whoever loves God
must also love his brother. Teach us to comprehend how few our days are
so that our hearts may be filled with wisdom. Beloved,
if our hearts do not condemn us,
we can approach God with confidence
and receive from him whatever we ask,
because we obey his commandments
and do whatever is pleasing to him. A man’s pride will bring him low,
but lowly souls will rise to honor. The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me
because the Lord has anointed me.
He has sent me to announce good news to the oppressed,
to strengthen the brokenhearted,
to proclaim freedom to those held in captivity
and release to those who have been imprisoned. Therefore, my beloved brethren, stand firm and immovable, devoting yourselves completely to the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain. The grass may wither and the flower may fade,
but the word of our God will endure forever. If you obey the command that I give you today, to love the Lord, your God, and to walk in his ways, and to observe his commandments, statutes, and decrees, then you will live and multiply, and the Lord, your God, will bless you in the land that you are entering to possess. There is no salvation in anyone else, nor is there any other name under heaven given to men by which we can be saved. All I want is to come to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and to share in his sufferings by becoming conformed to his death. Jesus replied,
“I am the way, and the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father
except through me.” He answered, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself.” Rather, seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Let us never grow weary in doing what is right, for if we do not give up, we will reap our harvest in due time. I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord;
I have no good apart from you.” Lying lips conceal hatred,
and anyone who slanders another is a fool. The desires of the flesh result in death, but the desires of the Spirit result in life and peace. Whoever believes in me,
as Scripture has said,
‘Streams of living water
shall flow from within him.’ This is the Lord’s message to Zerubbabel: Not by force, nor by strength, but by my Spirit, says the Lord of hosts. For God will repay everyone in accordance with what his deeds deserve. But the one who did not know those wishes, and who acted in such a manner as to deserve a beating, will be beaten less severely. Much will be demanded of a person to whom much has been given, and even more will be asked of a person to whom more has been entrusted. He is himself the sacrifice for our sins—
and not only for our sins
but also for the sins of the whole world. Therefore, humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, so that at the proper time he may exalt you. The one who sows in his flesh will reap a harvest of corruption, but the one who sows in the Spirit will reap from the Spirit the reward of eternal life. He did not spare his own Son but gave him up for all of us. How then can he fail also to give us everything else along with him?
