Chinese (traditional)To you, O God of my ancestors,
I give thanks and praise,
for you have given me wisdom and power,
and have now revealed to me what we asked of you,
for you have revealed to us what the king ordered. Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives;
those who open wide their lips come to ruin. When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight. Do you not know that wrongdoers will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived! Fornicators, idolaters, adulterers, male prostitutes, sodomites, thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, robbers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God. Put to death, therefore, whatever in you is earthly: fornication, impurity, passion, evil desire, and greed (which is idolatry). The wicked earn no real gain,
but those who sow righteousness get a true reward. Ask, and it will be given you; search, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you. A fool takes no pleasure in understanding,
but only in expressing personal opinion. Happy are those whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the Lord. Death and life are in the power of the tongue,
and those who love it will eat its fruits. He replied, “What is impossible for mortals is possible for God.” But let justice roll down like waters,
and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream. But as for you, man of God, shun all this; pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance, gentleness. How can young people keep their way pure?
By guarding it according to your word. When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. Who is a God like you, pardoning iniquity
and passing over the transgression
of the remnant of your possession?
He does not retain his anger forever,
because he delights in showing clemency. Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. Before destruction one's heart is haughty,
but humility goes before honor. Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. Although you have not seen him, you love him; and even though you do not see him now, you believe in him and rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, for you are receiving the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls. But when they saw him walking on the sea, they thought it was a ghost and cried out; for they all saw him and were terrified. But immediately he spoke to them and said, “Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid.” Take good care to observe the commandment and instruction that Moses the servant of the Lord commanded you, to love the Lord your God, to walk in all his ways, to keep his commandments, and to hold fast to him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul. Be angry but do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not make room for the devil. For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation. If you will only obey the Lord your God, by diligently observing all his commandments that I am commanding you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God. As they came from their mother's womb, so they shall go again, naked as they came; they shall take nothing for their toil, which they may carry away with their hands. For those who want to save their life will lose it, and those who lose their life for my sake, and for the sake of the gospel, will save it. O give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
for his steadfast love endures forever. O give thanks to the Lord, call on his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples. He who did not withhold his own Son, but gave him up for all of us, will he not with him also give us everything else? So we can say with confidence,
“The Lord is my helper;
I will not be afraid.
What can anyone do to me?”Next verse!With image
