Chinese (traditional)- Why are you so disheartened, O my soul?
Why do you sigh within me?
Place your hope in God;
for I will once again praise him,
my Savior and my God. - But I will sing of your strength;
when morning dawns, I will proclaim your kindness.
For you have been my fortress,
my refuge in times of trouble. - Hence, I advise you to be guided by the Spirit, so that you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.
- For everything that is in the world—
the concupiscence of the flesh,
the concupiscence of the eyes,
and the pride of life—
comes not from the Father
but from the world. - When you search for me, you will find me. When you seek me with all your heart.
- Blessed are those who observe his statutes
and seek him with their whole heart. - Take care, brethren, that none of you will ever have an evil and unbelieving heart that will cause you to forsake the living God.
- When I fed them, they were satisfied;
when they were satisfied, they became proud of heart
and quickly forgot me. - A man’s ways may seem right to him,
but the Lord weighs the heart. - Place your hope in the Lord:
be strong and courageous in your heart,
and place your hope in the Lord. - Banish grief from your heart
and ignore the sufferings of your body,
for youth and the prime of life are fleeting. - In my distress I called out to the Lord;
he answered by setting me free. - The entire community of believers was united in heart and soul. No one claimed any of his possessions as his own, for everything was held in common.
- Abba, Father, for you all things are possible. Take this cup from me. Yet not my will but yours be done.
- If you would seriously consider my reproof,
I would pour out my thoughts to you
and make my precepts known to you. - He continued, “Then put away the foreign gods from among you. Bend your heart to the Lord, the God of Israel.”
- For one believes in the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved.
- The heart is more deceitful than any other thing,
and it is also perverse.
Who can uncover its secrets?
I, the Lord, search the heart
and probe the mind
to reward all according to their conduct
and as their deeds deserve. - Even though the fig tree does not blossom
and there is no fruit on the vines,
even though the olive crop will fail
and the orchards will yield no food,
even though the flock is cut off from the fold
and there is no herd in the stalls,
I will continue to rejoice in the Lord,
and exult in the God of my salvation. - For the desires of the flesh are opposed to the Spirit, and those of the Spirit are opposed to the flesh. They are in conflict with one another, so that you cannot do what you want.
- I give them eternal life,
and they will never perish.
No one will ever snatch them from my hand.
My Father who has given them to me
is greater than all,
and no one can snatch them
out of the Father’s hand.
I and the Father are one. - Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
- But he answered me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” Hence, I will boast most gladly of my weaknesses, in order that the power of Christ may dwell within me.
- The Lord God then formed a woman out of the rib that he had taken from the man. He brought her before the man.
The man said,
“This one is bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh.
She shall be called woman
because she was taken from man.”
This is why a man leaves his father and his mother and joins with a wife, and the two become one flesh. - Go forth, then. Eat your bread with joy and drink your wine with a cheerful heart, for God long ago approved what you do.
However, the Advocate, the Holy Spirit,
whom the Father will send in my name,
will teach you everything
and remind you of all
that I have said to you.
