I (2/4)

He must increase; I must decrease. He must become greater and greater, and I must become less and less.
I keep the Lord always before me, for with him at my right hand I will never fall.I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.
Whom do I have in heaven except you? And besides you there is nothing else I desire on earth.Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth.
Does it now appear to you that I am trying to gain the approval of human beings rather than the approval of God? Am I seeking to please people? If I were still trying to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ.Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.
If I give away everything to feed the poor and hand over my body to be burned, but do not have love, I achieve nothing. If I gave everything I have to the poor and even sacrificed my body, I could boast about it; but if I didn’t love others, I would have gained nothing.
I will extol you, my God and King; I will bless your name forever and ever.I will exalt you, my God and King, and praise your name forever and ever.
I will offer praise to you, O Lord, with my whole heart; I will recount all your wondrous deeds.I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the marvelous things you have done.
At dawn let me experience your kindness, for in you I place my trust. Show me the path I must walk, for to you I lift up my soul.Let me hear of your unfailing love each morning, for I am trusting you. Show me where to walk, for I give myself to you.
For this reason, I rejoice when I endure weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and distress for the sake of Christ. For it is when I am weak that I am strong. That’s why I take pleasure in my weaknesses, and in the insults, hardships, persecutions, and troubles that I suffer for Christ. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.”I said to the Lord, “You are my Master! Every good thing I have comes from you.”
I will give thanks to you among the peoples, O Lord; I will sing your praises among the nations.I will thank you, Lord, among all the people. I will sing your praises among the nations.
But as for me, I will look to the Lord. I place my hope in God my savior; my God will hear me.As for me, I look to the Lord for help. I wait confidently for God to save me, and my God will certainly hear me.
Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled; be not afraid.I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.
I shall forgive them for their wicked deeds, and I shall remember their sins no more. And I will forgive their wickedness, and I will never again remember their sins.
I have made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you loved me may be in them, and I in them.I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them.
Jesus then said, “I will remain with you only for a short time longer, and then I shall return to him who sent me.”But Jesus told them, “I will be with you only a little longer. Then I will return to the one who sent me.”
Protect me, O God, for in you I take refuge.Keep me safe, O God, for I have come to you for refuge.
For I will provide the weary with all they need, and I will restore the strength of all those who have grown faint with hunger. For I have given rest to the weary and joy to the sorrowing.
Do not think that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I have not come to bring peace but a sword.Don’t imagine that I came to bring peace to the earth! I came not to bring peace, but a sword.
I have made a covenant with my eyes not to look with desire upon a virgin.I made a covenant with my eyes not to look with lust at a young woman.
I will instruct you and guide you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and keep my eyes upon you.The Lord says, “I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you.”
Amen, amen, I say to you, the one who believes in me will also do the works that I do, and indeed will do even greater ones than these, because I am going to the Father.I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father.
I came from the Father and have come into the world. Now I am leaving the world and returning to the Father.Yes, I came from the Father into the world, and now I will leave the world and return to the Father.
And now it is no longer I who live, but it is Christ who lives in me. The life I live now in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God who loved me and gave himself up for me.My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.
The Lord is my portion, I say to myself; therefore, I will place my hope in him.I say to myself, “The Lord is my inheritance; therefore, I will hope in him!”

Return, rebel Israel, says the Lord. I will not look upon you in anger. For I am merciful, says the Lord; my wrath will not continue forever.O Israel, my faithless people, come home to me again, for I am merciful. I will not be angry with you forever.
