| You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? | For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to all, training us to renounce impiety and worldly passions, and in the present age to live lives that are self-controlled, upright, and godly. | For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world. |
| So then, whenever we have an opportunity, let us work for the good of all, and especially for those of the family of faith. | As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith. |
| And may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, just as we abound in love for you. | And the Lord make you to increase and abound in love one toward another, and toward all men, even as we do toward you. |
| The vine withers, the fig tree droops. Pomegranate, palm, and apple— all the trees of the field are dried up; surely, joy withers away among the people. | The vine is dried up, and the fig tree languisheth; the pomegranate tree, the palm tree also, and the apple tree, even all the trees of the field, are withered: because joy is withered away from the sons of men. |
