Then Peter said, “Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? Didn’t it belong to you before it was sold? And after it was sold, wasn’t the money at your disposal? What made you think of doing such a thing? You have not lied just to human beings but to God.”“Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back part of the proceeds of the land? While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, were not the proceeds at your disposal? How is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You did not lie to us but to God!”
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps. The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps.
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God— not the result of works, so that no one may boast.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers who deceive themselves.
Teach slaves to be subject to their masters in everything, to try to please them, not to talk back to them, and not to steal from them, but to show that they can be fully trusted, so that in every way they will make the teaching about God our Savior attractive.Tell slaves to be submissive to their masters and to give satisfaction in every respect; they are not to talk back, not to pilfer, but to show complete and perfect fidelity, so that in everything they may be an ornament to the doctrine of God our Savior.
But God has helped me to this very day; so I stand here and testify to small and great alike. I am saying nothing beyond what the prophets and Moses said would happen— that the Messiah would suffer and, as the first to rise from the dead, would bring the message of light to his own people and to the Gentiles. To this day I have had help from God, and so I stand here, testifying to both small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would take place: that the Messiah must suffer, and that, by being the first to rise from the dead, he would proclaim light both to our people and to the Gentiles.
Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!Who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross.
Like a city whose walls are broken through is a person who lacks self-control.Like a city breached, without walls, is one who lacks self-control.
Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”And he said to them, “Take care! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one's life does not consist in the abundance of possessions.”
“He himself bore our sins” in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; “by his wounds you have been healed.”He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that, free from sins, we might live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.
The integrity of the upright guides them, but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity. The integrity of the upright guides them, but the crookedness of the treacherous destroys them.
There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.So then, a sabbath rest still remains for the people of God; for those who enter God's rest also cease from their labors as God did from his.
Those who guard their lips preserve their lives, but those who speak rashly will come to ruin. Those who guard their mouths preserve their lives; those who open wide their lips come to ruin.
Know then in your heart that as a man disciplines his son, so the Lord your God disciplines you.Know then in your heart that as a parent disciplines a child so the Lord your God disciplines you.
The Lord will vindicate me; your love, Lord, endures forever— do not abandon the works of your hands. The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands.
However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband. Each of you, however, should love his wife as himself, and a wife should respect her husband.
Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. If any think they are religious, and do not bridle their tongues but deceive their hearts, their religion is worthless.
Wives, submit yourselves to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.Wives, be subject to your husbands, as is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and never treat them harshly.
Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”Then he said to them all, “If any want to become my followers, let them deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me.”
And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.And God, who searches the heart, knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.
Sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; poor, yet making many rich; having nothing, and yet possessing everything. As sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything.
See to it, brothers and sisters, that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.Take care, brothers and sisters, that none of you may have an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.
May he give you the desire of your heart and make all your plans succeed.May he grant you your heart's desire, and fulfill all your plans.
He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit. He saved us, not because of any works of righteousness that we had done, but according to his mercy, through the water of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit.
